ISCAID's New Pyelonephritis Guideline for Dogs and Cats

This presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of the latest research that has been synthesized and generated to inform ISCAID’s new evidence-based pyelonephritis guidelines in dogs and cats. A series of studies including information about disease characterisation, consensus-based definitions of the condition and proposed diagnostic criteria will be presented as well as diagnostic accuracy of acute phase proteins, fever, neutrophilia and ultrasonography. Additionally, retrospective clinical data of treatment efficacy comparing lower tier antimicrobials (beta-lactams and trimethoprim-sulpha) with higher tier antimicrobials (fluoroquinolones) and the role of risk factors will be discussed. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation(GRADE) methodology and strength of evidence that was used to develop the guidelines will be reviewed briefly.
