This session explores the diagnostic utility of metabolomics across diverse equine biofluids, including tears, aqueous humor, and peritoneal fluid. We will analyze specific metabolic signatures associated with colic, focusing on the critical differentiation between ischemic and simple obstructive pathologies. We will also report about the use of Raman spectroscopy as a promising POC technology to rapidly identify strangulating lesions in a clinical setting, to bridge the gap between complex metabolic profiling and real-time surgical decision-making.
Learning Objectives:
Discuss metabolomic profiling of equine tears, aqueous humor and peritoneal fluid.
Distinguish the metabolomic profiling between ischemic and simple obstructive colic.
Evaluate the role of Raman spectroscopy as a rapid POC tool in colic cases.
