Veterinary Neurologist VCA Animal Care Center of Sonoma County Woodland, California, United States
Dr. Diccon Westworth will present on the business case for sustainability. A sustainable business looks beyond the classic profit/loss statement’s net profit - the single bottom line- to the triple bottom line which incorporates People (Social/Health), Planet (Environment), and Profit (Economics). We will dive into some real-world examples on how to optimize medical care whilst saving money, reducing wastage, limiting your environmental impact and increasing recruitment, retention, client spend, return rates and community engagement. Dr. Angela Frimberger will present on renewable low-carbon electricity, electrification and veterinary practice - highlighting the (inspiring) state of play in Australia. The presentation will update attendees on the uptake of renewable energy, battery storage, EVs and electrification in Australia, and touch on how these can be applied to sustainability of veterinary practice. Hunter Constable the Global Product Manager/Surgical Instrumentation for Movora will discuss the use of rigid sterilization containers to securely house surgical instruments. They play a critical role in sterility assurance, help protect surgical instruments from damage, and eliminate the need for blue wrap and excess surgical waste. This presentation will explore Vet Spectrum EverGreen sterilization containers—examining their functionality, key benefits, and their role in supporting sustainability initiatives within veterinary practices. Dr. Lizzie Barker will present the Veterinary Green Theatre Checklist. The compendium supports evidence-based, sustainable veterinary OR/interventional procedural practices to mitigate the impacts of veterinary care. It comprises 20 recommendations in four sections; pre-, peri-, post- surgery/procedure, and pharmaceutical use.
