Applications of Spatial Transcriptomics in Animal Health

Presentation Description / Summary: Spatial transcriptomics technologies have recently become available for use in veterinary species and are rapidly revolutionizing how we approach research questions. In this lecture, we will give attendees an introduction of novel technology that has recently become available for veterinary species (including Nanostring GeoMx and 10 genomics Visium), how it works and what it can be used for. We will then venture into some examples of research questions that we have recently been asking using these technologies, including elucidating the pathogenetic pathways in Yorkshire Terrier PLE, investigating the tumor microenvironment in canine bladder cancer, and comparative research in canine and human Cushing's disease.
