Presentation Description / Summary: As newer cluster seizure protocols come into the veterinary literature, so must a framework that aims to help general practitioners learn how to best use these new protocols best. This presentation proposes a novel classification scheme for cluster seizures with the primary aim of equipping general practitioners with an accessible framework to distinguish between various presentations of cluster seizures, allowing them to formulate targeted treatment protocols better and improve patient outcomes. Rectal diazepam and, more recently, intranasal midazolam have long been the standards for therapy of care, but efficacy as a standalone for all presentations of cluster seizures is poor. Through this proposed framework, practitioners can approach cluster seizure protocols more effectively based on presentation characteristics, potentially leading to improved control of cluster seizures.
Learning Objectives:
describe the proposed cluster seizure classification framework and how they compare and contrast to each other.
Apply various cluster seizure protocols to the different classification systems.
