Presentation Description / Summary: This session will review the history, scientific evidence, and current options for performing pulmonary function testing (PFT) in clinical feline patients. PFT is the echocardiogram of the pulmonologist. If echocardiography is the cardiologist’s window into hemodynamics, PFT is the pulmonologist’s window into aerodynamics. As a non-invasive modality, PFT can be performed in awake patients, making it highly practical in clinical settings. A better understanding of how to use and apply non-invasive PFT will help improve care for cats.
Learning Objectives:
1) Understand current pulmonary function testing (PFT) options available for cats.
2) Review key historical milestones and supporting scientific evidence for feline PFT.
3) Describe a practical approach to apply PFT in practice.
4) Identify the basic principles, key considerations, and technical concerns that affect interpretation of feline PFT data.
