Presentation Description / Summary: Cytology is a powerful diagnostic tool in small animal patients, with a large number of sites that can be sampled with aspiration and disease processes that can be elucidated. Veterinary technicians can play a major role in obtaining and screening samples. A systematic approach to sample acquisition and assessment will be presented. The tremendous utility of cytology will be highlighted by case examples and discussion, including diseases ranging from neoplasia to infectious diseases and from sites including facial swellings to intrathoracic masses.
Learning Objectives:
describe the process for easy and effective sample acquisition and slide preparation
know the flowchart for initial slide assessment
recognize common cytologic findings for a range of diseases
