When Oncology Patients Become Internal Medicine Patients

Presentation Description / Summary: Cancer patients rarely exist in isolation; many present with concurrent chronic diseases such as chronic kidney disease, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, etc. These comorbidities complicate cancer treatment and require careful coordination between internal medicine and oncology teams. This lecture, co presented by a VTS (SAIM) and a VTS (Oncology), explores real-world strategies for managing complex patients receiving chemotherapy while simultaneously navigating chronic disease management. Through case examples, we will highlight how technicians can anticipate complications, tailor monitoring plans, and serve as the bridge between specialties to optimize outcomes.
