Presentation Description / Summary: Platelet transfusion therapy is rapidly evolving in small animal medicine, driven by expanding product options and a growing evidence base. This session will explore current approaches to platelet transfusions in small animals, including how available products are selected, administered, and used in clinical practice. Emerging research from veterinary and translational studies will be incorporated to provide perspective on where the field is headed and how ongoing advances may influence everyday decision making.
Learning Objectives:
Describe available platelet transfusion products in veterinary medicine and their key indications and limitations.
Explain factors that influence bleeding risk and platelet transfusion decision making.
Apply evidence-informed principles to the selection and administration of platelet products in common clinical scenarios.
Evaluate emerging and translational research related to platelet transfusion therapy and its potential impact on clinical practice.
