Presentation Description / Summary: You may have heard the acronym VUCA (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, Ambiguous), but today's world has moved beyond than to BANI (Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, Incomprehensible). The transition from VUCA to BANI is apparent in three major dimensions. First, the pace of change has surged—while VUCA acknowledged ongoing change, BANI emphasizes the heightened speed at which it now occurs. Second, BANI reflects the intricately connected our systems are, where risks are nonlinear and can spread unpredictably. Third, the emotional toll of change has grown more intense. BANI draws attention to the widespread anxiety and societal polarization that can amplify and accelerate crises.
In this session, we'll discuss each of these accelerating challenges and focus on shifts you can make to keep your personal and professional equilibrium. It's important for all of us to be informed but not overwhelmed, to practice self-care but not to the exclusion of caring for others, and to find everyday satisfaction even amid broader concerns. This session will focus on some realistic and practical techniques we can use to banish (or at least manage) BANI.
Learning Objectives:
Understand why the BANI nature of our world today is so challenging to cope with
Utilize practical strategies to "Ban the BANI" or at least manage the heightened speed, interconnected risks and societal polarization we face
Determine 1-2 actions they will take when they get home to better manage in our challenging and accelerating world
