Presentation Description / Summary: Pet obesity is an increasingly prominent concern in veterinary medicine, but can be a sensitive and difficult subject for veterinary professionals to discuss with pet owners. It is important for veterinary professionals to be both informed and comfortable with having in-depth conversations surrounding a pet’s weight, creating realistic weight loss plans and setting manageable goals for both the pet and their owner. Tackling pet obesity requires an all hands on deck approach and is something that both veterinary professionals and pet owners alike must understand in order to decrease the prevalence of pet obesity. This lecture will tackle all aspects of pet obesity from initiating the conversation, creating a weight loss plan and approriate follow up and healthy weight maintenance.
