I am a European small animal medicine diplomat who runs a research programme focussed on the genetics of canine obesity. My PhD studies focused on the molecular mechanisms of insulin resistance. Recently I have worked on the genetics of Labrador obesity - detailing the physiological consequences of a mutation in the gene POMC which is associated with obesity and appetite in Labrador retreivers. Allied to that work, I have explored the human factors surrounding canine obesity. I am based at the Institute of Metabolic Science at the University of Cambridge and our canine studies are carried out at the Dept. Veterinary Medicine where I am an Associate Lecturer.
