Thomas Hawn, MD, PhD is a Professor in the Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases within the Department of Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine. After completing his MD-PhD studies at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, he moved to the University of Washington where he completed a residency in Internal Medicine followed by an Infectious Diseases fellowship.
Tom studies human variation in the innate immune system and its regulation of susceptibility to Mycobacterial infections, including tuberculosis. His laboratory defines the cellular function of genetic polymorphisms in innate immune response genes and the mechanisms of how they regulate susceptibility to human infection with an overall goal of elucidating novel therapeutic strategies.
