Elinor Karlsson, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor at UMass Chan Medical School and Director of Vertebrate Genomics at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. She is Chief Scientist and co-founder of Darwin’s Ark. Dr. Karlsson’s research combines genomics, new technology, and community science to study diseases and exceptional mammalian traits. She works with pet owners worldwide to build open-data resources for studying how genes and environment influence disease risk. Dr. Karlsson earned her B.A. and B.F.A. from Rice University, her Ph.D. from Boston University, and completed a postdoc at Harvard before joining UMass Chan in 2014, where she holds the Dr. Eileen L. Berman and Stanley I. Berman Foundation Chair in Biomedical Research.
