Dr. Kato pursued a residency in small animal emergency and critical care at North Carolina State University, achieved board certification with the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care in 2021, and then stayed on at North Carolina State University for a fellowship in extracorporeal therapies. Dr. Kato then moved into the private sector working in both San Diego, California and Cary, North Carolina for several years. Dr. Kato is currently an assistant professor at Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. His interests lie primarily in extracorporeal therapy including hemodialysis, hemoperfusion, and therapeutic plasma exchange as well as the management of respiratory, renal and cardiac critical illness.
