Dr Maciej Parys graduated from University of Warmia and Mazury Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Olsztyn, Poland, in 2009. Subsequently he moved to Michigan State University to pursue PhD in Comparative Medicine and Integrative Biology. He stayed at MSU until 2016, when he moved to University of Edinburgh vet school. In Edinburgh he started his research group studying novel ways of treating and diagnosing cancer in companion animals. In 2022 he founded a University of Edinburgh spin-out company, CanCan Diagnostics, which is commercializing the pioneering liquid biopsy test for aid-in-diagnosis and minimal residual disease monitoring in dogs. Dr Parys received multiple awards for his research work, including AVMA/AVMF Young Investigator Award.
