Amy Nichelason, DVM, DABVP (Canine and Feline) is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Primary Care department at the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Veterinary Medicine. She earned her DVM from the University of California–Davis and completed a rotating internship at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital in New Jersey before spending several years in small animal general practice. Now a diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Canine and Feline), Dr. Nichelason’s clinical and teaching interests focus on strategies that prepare veterinary students to become confident, capable general practitioners. Her research explores professional identity formation, decision-making in chronic disease management, and practical, evidence-based, client-centered approaches to caring for patients—especially in ways that preserve the human-animal bond and support real-world implementation in general practice.
