This course covers the reasoning behind patient safety and the systematic approach to implementing patient safety in an oncologic setting. The principals in this course are meant to be applicable to a wide range of applications including anesthesia, surgery and patient care visits. Discussion about how to apply to individual circumstances will be encouraged, and techniques for reviewing patient safety events will be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

Understand the importance of patient safety and identify the stakeholders of patient safety
Identify communication strategies to reduce patient safety events
Understand appropriate documentation of treatments and patient safety events particularly in an oncology setting
Understand basic methods to review patient safety events
