Professor of Parasitology St. George's University True Blue, Saint George, Grenada
The growing prevalence of multi-drug resistant gastrointestinal parasites poses a serious challenge to small ruminant health worldwide. This session will deliver an in-depth review of the FAMACHA system, explain the principles and application of refugia-based control strategies, and provide practical guidance on diagnosing anthelmintic resistance. Additionally, attendees will gain actionable strategies for sustainable parasite management in the era of drug resistance.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will gain an understanding of the importance of refugia-based strategies for controlling parasites while limiting the worsening of drug resistance.
Attendees will gain an appreciation of the research demonstrating the validation and benefits of the FAMACHA system.
Attendees will gain a deeper appreciation of the subtleties involved with using FAMACHA as a foundational aspect of parasite control, and what it can and cannot be expected to achieve.
