Presentation Description / Summary: Discuss two recent reports describing the metabolomic profiles of serum and urine from cats with renal disease or calcium oxalate urolithiasis, with a goal of identifying specific metabolites for targeted nutritional interventions. These findings provide a metabolic basis for understanding the known positive effects of specific dietary changes in the management of these disorders.
Learning Objectives:
Describe the metabolomic changes in plasma and urine of cats with renal disease or calcium oxalate urolithiasis.
List specific metabolites to target with nutritional interventions in cats with renal disease or calcium oxalate urolithiasis.
Explain at the metabolomic level the basis for what we have reported clinically and functionally in previous studies for certain foods and/or ingredients benefiting cats with renal disease or calcium
