Medical Treatment of Congenital Portosystemic Shunts

Presentation Description / Summary: Surgically interventioned cPSS dogs tend to have better long-term outcomes than medically managed dogs. Nevertheless, pre-surgical medical stabilization of cPSS is deemed critical in reducing perioperative complications during such procedures and in keeping a good quality of life and reduced comorbidities in dogs that do not undergo surgery or shunt patency remains after failed attenuation. In this lecture we explore the role and evidence for the use of the different medical therapy components and most common comorbidities associated with cPSS dogs and medical therapeutic approach to such comorbidities
