Presentation Description / Summary: This lecture will discuss feeding management and strategies for pets with kidney disease. Attendees will learn how to compare products on the market to make the best choice for their patient to help slow the progression of the disease and keep pets feeling well for as long as possible. Technicians should be familiar with the specific nutrient modifications in a renal-friendly diet so that information can be shared with clients. Being able to educate clients that food is the medicine for pets with renal disease will help clients feel better about feeding the recommended diet and sticking to the recommended treat plan. Feeding management tips and tricks will also be covered. Pets with renal disease often have selective appetite, and different feeding management strategies need to be used to help keep pets eating the proper diet will be shared. A discussion on various ingredients in the diets will also be covered. When technicians remember that pets do not need ingredients, they need nutrients, they can better educate their clients on why a specific diet was selected.
