Even experienced oncology technicians can trip over the math. This session brings the numbers to life — from precise body surface area dosing to re institutions and dilutions for common veterinary chemotherapy agents. Participants will start with core principles and work their way into advanced, patient scenarios that focus on accuracy and judgment. In the real world, chemotherapy miscalculations can result in life or death situations. Doses and drugs should always be double-checked. Oncology is a team sport!
To add some fun to serious learning, we will end the session with a lightning-round competition that tests who can calculate — and think — the fastest under pressure.
Learning Objectives:
1. Apply correct body surface area (BSA) calculations to determine chemotherapy doses in dogs and cats.
2. Accurately calculate and prepare dilutions for common veterinary chemotherapy drugs using appropriate diluents.
3. Identify errors in sample chemo calculations that could lead to patient harm or handling risks.
4. Demonstrate rapid-fire calculation and compatibility decision-making under timed conditions.
