Shir earned her master's of Neurobiology (1995) from the Weizmann Institute of Science in and her DVM from the Koret School of veterinary medicine (2001) in Israel. Shir completed an internship at the animal medical center (NYC) and a residency in clinical pathology at the university of Illinois (2009). From 2010-2019, Shir worked as a clinical pathologist for IDEXX, VDx and UC Davis, California, as a clinical pathology teacher in the Veterinary Technician program at Columbus State Community College, and as a general practitioner in NY and at OSU and. Shir is now the Director of the clinical pathology laboratory and service chief of the clinical pathology service at the University of Florida.
