Dr McCarthy attended CSU receiving his DVM in 1969. After two years in general practice he returned to CSU for the graduate program in Surgery becoming an ACVS diplomate in 1978 and earning a PhD in i981. Returning to private practice he became involved with endoscopy in 1982. This became the focus of his practice and grew to encompass all aspects of flexible and rigid endoscopy. Dr McCarthy has published many journal articles and book chapters. He was the editor of two editions of "Veterinary Endoscopy for the Small Animal Practitioner" pluse was the sole author for "Veterinary Arthroscopy for the Small Animal Practitioner". He has traveled to teach in 21 states and 16 countries.
