Dr. McKenzie has been at Oregon State University as a faculty member for more than 20 years performing teaching and research duties, while continuing to practice specialist medicine for a range of large animal species including camelids. She has a particular interest in large animal cardiology and recently took a year-long cardiology sabbatical to enhance her skills. To date she has performed comprehensive echocardiography on over 100 camelids, with expert guidance from a large animal cardiologist who is a collaborator on this study.
